Artist Profile — Diane Hoenzsch
Proclaimed by audiences as a powerfully passionate and anointed performer, Diane Hoenzsch’s piano style is a unique and versatile blend of her own concert arrangements with elements of improvisation, jazz, blues and gospel sounds of both Christian and popular/contemporary works.
Born and raised in the Albany area, Diane has performed in a variety of settings contributing her talents in numerous professional and non-professional venues. In her late teens, back in the 1960’s, she began performing in the Albany area with a young group called the Rhythm Barons. Some of the members of this group she had gone to high school with (including Sonny Daye currently of the local performing duo, Sonny and Perley). In the early 1970’s she traveled south and studied with several concert artists-in-residence while working on a masters in piano performance in Atlanta, Georgia. She also played professionally with a dinner theatre band, and she was the member of a 7 piece college Dixieland group that went on a State Department sponsored tour to Brazil. In the later 70’s through the early 1980’s, while still in Atlanta, she began playing for numerous church functions and Christian Womens’ Clubs. Since her return to Albany in the mid-1980’s, she has continued to perform concerts, play for weddings and church related functions, appear on local TV and radio programs, and provide background music for numerous dinner functions and some local restaurants. She has also performed at receptions for members of the State Legislature. She continues to utilize her talents accompanying her husband Fred Hoenzsch, host of the local radio program Hymns To Live By, (aired weekly on WHAZ 1330 AM Christian Radio) in presenting hymn-sings and various programs.
Her first professional recording, Be Thou My Vision, Inspirational Piano by Diane Hoenzsch was released in May, 2000, and is available online (click on How To Buy Album for details), is also available in the following bookstores around the Capital Region of New York State: The Living Word Bookstore in East Greenbush, Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores on Wolf Road in Albany, and Borders bookstore in Saratoga Springs. Her music is often heard on WHAZ (1330 AM, 97.3 FM) on her husband’s radio program Hymns To Live By. Selections from the album have also been used on the Sound of Life Radio Network on the program Reflections.
